Statement by Prince Muqrin bin Abdulaziz, President of General Intelligence Presidency (GIP) and head of Saudi Arabia’s delegation to the Nuclear Security Summit at the Third Session Proposed Intervention in Connection to “Security Council Resolution 1540” Washington, DC, April 13, 2010
President Barak Obama,
Distinguished Heads of State and Heads of Delegations:
Saudi Arabia supports all attempts to achieve international peace and stability. It interacted with the international community to implement the necessary mechanisms to deny non-state actors access to materials used in lethal weapons. Saudi Arabia presented its report to the Security Council Committee established pursuant to Resolution 1540 that calls for limiting the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
I am pleased to announce today the decision of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, to organize and host a Gulf Cooperation Council workshop on Security Council Resolution 1540 in cooperation with the competent authorities in the U.N. Security Council. This step reaffirms the Kingdom’s commitment to implement Resolution 1540 and to enhance its cooperation with the Security Council committee entrusted with its implementation.
Thank you.
