(WASHINGTON, DC) - Yesterday, the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Washington, D.C. hosted a luncheon in honor of a delegation from King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy (K.A.CARE). The delegation, led by the City’s Vice President Dr. Khalid bin Mohammed Al-Sulaiman will meet with a number of officials from the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Department of State.

“The visit comes within the framework of reaching a cooperation agreement between Saudi Arabia and the United States of America in the field of peaceful uses of nuclear energy, and within the framework of Saudi Arabia seeking to benefit from the new sources of energy represented by nuclear and renewable sources,” stated Dr. Al-Sulaiman.

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz issued a royal decree in April 2010 establishing K.A.CARE to oversee the peaceful uses of nuclear and renewable energy in the Kingdom. Article IV of the City's regulations stipulates that it is "the competent Authority in charge of fulfilling national obligations towards all treaties and agreements regarding the nuclear and renewable energy to which the Kingdom is, or will be, a signatory. The City is also mandated to supervise, monitor and control all usages of atomic energy and the resulting radioactive waste.”
