Saudi Ministry of Defense Daily Briefing: Operation Decisive Storm
The following is a summary of the daily press briefing held today in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on the developments of Operation Decisive Storm. The briefing was conducted by Brig. Gen. Ahmed bin Hasan Asiri, advisor in the Office of the Minister of Defense.
-
The coalition air campaign is continuing as scheduled, with a progressive and steady rhythm, to ensure all goals are achieved on time.
-
A small group of Houthi militants tried yesterday to access key areas of Aden through hit and run operations. Popular committees in Aden stopped the militias before they could reach the presidential palace.
-
The Yemeni army, along with coalition forces, responded by expelling Houthi militias from Aden. Coalition forces provided logistical support for Yemeni army units on the ground. The militias are currently isolated within pockets of Aden and coalition forces are currently preventing the militias from receiving external support.
-
Brid. Gen. Asiri stressed that Houthi militia operations along the southern border of Saudi Arabia and the suburbs of Aden are being carried out by individuals or isolated groups, without coordination or strategy, which is an indication that the Houthis do not have a clear military plan. Coalition forces continue to cut off communications and supply lines between concentrated areas of Houthis. .
-
On Friday, coalition forces targeted Mion Island, strategically situated in the Bab Al-Mandab, in order to stop Houthi militias from smuggling weapons. There is a possibility of ground-to-sea conflicts to stop navigation of the strait.
-
Coalition air forces continued to use precise intelligence to target Houthi ammunition storage facilities and missiles. Because the militias have broken into small groups, it will be difficult to destroy them completely. The current air campaigns, however, have significantly reduced their capabilities.
-
Houthi militias are attempting to move towards the Saudi border. There have been a number of random skirmishes and shootings near the border.
-
Friday evening, militias attacked the Al-Wadia port on the Saudi border. The Saudi Royal Land Forces immediately contained the threat. The Land Forces will continue to protect Saudi borders and naval operations will continue to monitor the maritime borders, ports and islands. .
-
Yemen airspace is under the control of coalition forces, preventing Houthi militias from recruiting foreign mercenaries.
-
Airstrikes will continue as planned until the coalition determines it is ready to move to the next phase of attack.
