Saudi Ministry of Defense Daily Briefing: Operation Decisive Storm
The following is a summary of the daily press briefing held today in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on the developments of Operation Decisive Storm. The briefing was conducted by Brig. Gen. Ahmed bin Hasan Asiri, advisor in the Office of the Minister of Defense.
-
Houthi militias have established special command centers in residential districts and hotels to attract the coalition forces and cause civilian casualties. Work is underway to verify this information, and pinpoint those sites prior to taking the appropriate measures.
-
Coalition military aircraft continue to drop military supplies to the popular committees to help them to defend the country from the Houthi militias.
-
The flight, prepared for Red Cross personnel, did not depart as scheduled today. The Red Cross requested that the Ministry of Defense postpone the flight to an indefinite date. The flight assigned to transport Egyptian dependents was also postponed due to shortage of seats. No new schedule was announced.
-
The Houthi militias, who control Sana’a Airport, denied departure for Sudanese dependents. Coalition forces are keen on the safety of air crews who fly into Yemen to help evacuate the stranded foreign nationals. Contacts are underway between the Command of the Evacuation Operations, which was appointed by the coalition, and those inside Yemen to guarantee safe evacuation of foreigner nationals.
-
Air operations are still going, targeting military sites, ammunition and arms stores controlled by the Houthi militias.
-
Saudi Land Forces and Border Guards have put an end to the trench digging operation by Houthi militias in the vicinity of Saudi border, while the navy is keeping a vigilant eye on the Yemeni ports traffic, including foiling an attempt to seize the Port of Aden.
-
Regarding the continued fighting in Aden by the Houthi militias and their supporters, before the operation started, the Houthi militias were controlling most cities and some Yemeni military camps. In the most recent exposure of power, they resorted to cutting water and power supplies in Aden. However, forces are supporting the coalition with information, equipment and logistics, hoping that within days they will control most cities.
-
The coalition has confidence that its forces will end the Houthi endeavor to reach the Port of Aden, a step that would deprive Houthi militias of men and supplies.
-
Coalition forces are in full control of Yemen’s airspace and are not using Omani airspace to conduct operations. Oman is in charge of its borders and airspace.
-
The term People's Committees is widely used to refer to those who are defending the Yemeni people against the acts of those militias.
-
The possibility of using helicopters and drones to provide support for ground troops are on schedule, but they will be enforced after verifying the clearance of a specific area and after receiving confirmation from the popular committees and Yemeni army. However, the operation is going as scheduled.
-
Coalition forces provide support to anyone who is defending Yemen's security and stability and safety of its people. The major condition is the interest of the people of Yemen and the citizens of the country.
-
Every effort is made that arms meant to reach their legitimate destination will not mistakenly fall into the hands of Houthi militias.
