(WASHINGTON, DC) - Today, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz congratulated the people of Saudi Arabia and all Muslims around the world on the occasion of the Eid Al-Fitr.

In a statement, delivered by Minister of Culture and Information Dr. Abdulaziz Khojah, King Abdullah condemned terrorism, stressing its contradiction to Islamic values.

“These groups have become an easy tool for the enemies of Islam who use them to terrorize and kill innocent people through the distortion of the holy text and interpretation of Islamic law to serve their ends and personal interests,” said King Abdullah.

King Abdullah also stressed commitment to the national security of Saudi Arabia from those who ‎threaten the ideals of peace and security on which the Kingdom was founded.

“The founder of Saudi Arabia, the late King Abdulaziz, united the country on the grounds of love, peace and respect, and was inspired by the message of this great religion of Islam which rejects extremism and encourages moderation in all things,” said King Abdullah. “We will protect the national security of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia against anyone or any terrorist organization who attempts to undermine the nation's security and we have taken all the necessary measures to protect the Kingdom, its interests, its people and residents.”

Eid al-Fitr, a feast-day commemorating the end of Ramadan, begins tomorrow. Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is the month in which the first verses of the Qur’an were revealed as a guide to mankind. Saudi Arabia occupies a special place in the Islamic world, for it is towards Makkah and Islam's most sacred shrine, the Ka'abah, that Muslims throughout the world turn devoutly in prayer five times a day.
