(WASHINGTON, DC) - Today in Jeddah, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal led an emergency meeting with the Executive Committee of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to develop recommendations in an effort to end the current crisis occurring in Palestine. Palestinian Prime Minister Dr. Rami Alhamd-Allah and a number of ministers were also in attendance.
Prince Saud and OIC Secretary General Iyad bin Amin Madani delivered remarks, calling on the Islamic and international communities and its institutions to intervene immediately to the ongoing aggression and secure immediate humanitarian needs.
Prince Saud announced that international donors, including Saudi Arabia, have pledged $500 million for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip. Furthermore, he asserted that Saudi Arabia has spared no effort to support the Palestinian cause in all forums and will continue to do so. “The Kingdom is still continuing its efforts in international forums, especially in the United Nations, and [is] contacting effective parties in the Security Council to stop the bloodshed and provide support for the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights,” said Prince Saud.
Prince Saud also referred to the Kingdom’s recent donation of nearly $80 million to the Palestinian Ministry of Health and Palestinian Red Crescent.
“What the world has seen in the war on Gaza of tragic images and unprecedented brutality and mass destruction goes beyond all limits of humanity,” said Prince Saud. “As we can see, Israel has not hesitated and will not hesitate to go to any extent without consideration for any regulation, law, legitimacy or humanity, to achieve its goals and objectives. Its goal is only to eradicate the Palestinian presence even in its living and cultural expressions; seize territory; threat Palestine as a whole; violate its mosques, churches and holy sites; and impose its hegemony on the region as a controlling, tyrant regional power.”
