(WASHINGTON, DC) - Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal called upon the international community to make a decisive stand against the Syrian regime. The statement was made yesterday at the Saudi-Moroccan Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation in Jeddah.
Prince Saud stated that the situation now requires a tough international stance against the Syrian regime to stop the human tragedy that is occurring, noting its recent use of internationally banned chemical weapons in Damascus. He stated that the current regime’s refusal to cooperate with the international community and its continuous massacres against its own people have caused the government to lose sight of its Arab identity and affiliation with the Syrian population.
On Monday, Saudi Arabia reiterated its call to the international community, represented by the Security Council, to shoulder its responsibilities towards the Syrian people, who continue to suffer. During its weekly meeting, the Cabinet warned that a failure to act in the face of the Assad regime’s use of chemical weapons against its own people will only invite more tragedies.
