(WASHINGTON, DC) - The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia launched “the Custodian of The Two Holy Mosques Campaign to Provide Humanitarian Relief to the Palestinian People in Gaza.” This effort is a nationwide endeavor which is coordinated by a number of entities, including representative of the provincial governments, the Ministry of Culture and Information, the Chambers of Commerce and Industry, and a number of other departments. The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz initiated the fund with a donation of $8 million.

The Campaign is part of a broader humanitarian effort by the Kingdom to provide humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian people during this difficult time.

King Abdullah has ordered the delivery of medical aid to civilian victims, as well as the transportation of the wounded to Saudi Arabia for treatment at Saudi hospitals, a number of whom have already arrived in the Kingdom.

Saudi Arabia delivered its first shipment, two cargo planes with more than 20 tons of medical supplies, on December 30. Saudi Medevac planes are airlifting injured Palestinians to Saudi hospitals, including King Faisal Specialist Hospital, where King Abdullah has personally paid a visit to wounded Palestinian youth.

“This is an effort by the Saudi people to help alleviate the tragic humanitarian situation of the people in Gaza,” said Saudi Ambassador to the United States Adel A. Al-Jubeir.
