(WASHINGTON, DC) - The Ministry of Interior announced today that Saudi security authorities uncovered a terror organization with a widespread network and links to extremist activity in Syria, Yemen and inside Saudi Arabia.

A statement issued by the spokesman for the Interior Ministry said that 62 suspects had been arrested as they prepared to carry out terrorist acts targeting government buildings, foreign interests, security officers, Muslim preachers and government officials. Three of the suspects are expatriates from Palestine, Yemen and Pakistan, and the remaining were Saudi nationals.

According to the statement, smuggling operations were the organization's primary objective, particularly across the southern border. This included the smuggling of people, especially women and weapons. The group also managed to smuggle known terrorists, Arwa Baghdadi and Rima Al-Jarish.

The Interior Minister stated that as a result of the raid and search operation, a laboratory was discovered which had been used to make explosives and forge documents. The funding cell was also detected during the raid. According to the ministry, more than $240,000 was seized.

The Ministry of Interior emphasized that the security authorities will spare no effort in maintaining the country’s security and stability, and asked those that are engaged in suspicious acts to immediately surrender themselves to security services.
