(WASHINGTON, DC) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia issued the following statement today:

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is following with interest the implementation of the temporary cease-fire in Syria, according to an official source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The official said that the Kingdom welcomed this truce because it promised to help relieve the suffering of the brotherly Syrian people.

The official added that it is critical that Bashar Al-Assad's regime and its allies abide by this truce expressed the hope that the truce would lead to the resumption of the political process in Syria on the basis of Geneva I and the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2254, which would form the basis for a peaceful transition of power.
