(WASHINGTON, DC) – Saudi Ambassador to the United States Adel Al-Jubeir today met with United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon at the UN in New York to discuss the situation in Darfur and other regional issues.
At the sidelines of the Arab Summit in Riyadh on March 29, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz brought together Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Secretary-General of the Arab League Amr Moussa and Chairperson of the African Union Alpha Oumar Konaré to discuss the situation in Darfur. The meeting resulted in a decision to increase the number of UN forces deployed in Darfur.
"The situation in Darfur is a human tragedy," Ambassador Al-Jubeir said. "Enhancing security will save lives and allow for more effective distribution of humanitarian assistance. We commend the Secretary-General for his efforts in this regard."
