On Wednesday, January 24, the Yemen Comprehensive Humanitarian Operations (YCHO) Support Center announced at a press conference the establishment of a $5 million grant to rebuild a central, north-south road from the Port of Aden into the interior of Yemen, linking major Yemeni cities and connecting Aden and Sana'a. The bilateral cooperation agreement was jointly announced by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's Ambassador to Yemen, Ambassador Mohammed Al-Jabir and the Yemeni Minister of Public Works, Dr. Abdelmalek Saeed, who were the signatories to the agreement.
The project, which will begin within the coming weeks, will take approximately 60 days to complete and is expected to create a minimum of 15,000 jobs employing Yemenis. Information disclosed during the press conference highlighted the overall details of the project, including the geographic locations that specify where the central road will be constructed, along with details on how the project will progress. This marks one of YCHO’s first infrastructure projects for Yemen, which is aimed at rebuilding critical infrastructure that will facilitate aid distribution in Yemen's interior.
