The UN Palestinians Refugees Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) expressed gratitude to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates for their contributions of $78.9 million that provided the agency with more than half of the total deficit of its 2015 Fiscal Year budget.
Last week, Saudi Arabia informed UNRWA that it has approved an assistance package worth US$ 35 million dollars. UNRWA announced on August 12 that "the majority will be spent on education and health in Gaza, on upgrading schools and health centers in Jordan, on the construction of three health centers in the West Bank and on maintaining buildings across the areas where UNRWA operates. It is estimated that $19 million will contribute to reducing the current financial deficit of $101 million in UNRWA’s General Fund for core services such as education and health."
In May, the Saudi Fund for Development and UNRWA signed agreements worth $111.5 million, bringing to $146.5 million the total of the SFD’s donations to UNRWA so far for 2015. Saudi Arabia is the third largest donor to UNRWA.
