Saudi Reconstruction Program in Yemen Launches Eight New Projects in Al Mahra Governorate
His Excellency Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi, President of the Republic of Yemen and His Excellency Mohammed bin Saeed Al Jabir, Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to the Republic of Yemen, announced eight new projects today as part of the long-term Saudi Reconstruction Program in Yemen (SRPY).
Announced in May 2018, SRPY accelerates the work of companies specializing in upgrading critical infrastructure in Yemen. This includes building and expanding civil, industrial, educational and medical facilities complete with state-of-the art technology.
The eight projects in Al Mahra Governorate announced today are:
- Expansion of Al Ghaydah Hospital to increase capacity;
- Construction of a water purification plant in Al Ghaydah;
- Expansion and improvement of the port of Nishtun;
- Construction of a several modern roads in Al Mahra Governorate;
- Construction of a completely new, full-service hospital in Al Ghaydah;
- Construction of King Salman Education and Medical City university and hospital (Phase 1);
- Construction of an electrical power plant;
- Renovation of Al Ghaydah airport
Many of the projects are expected to be completed within six to 18 Months.
H.E. Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi, President of the Republic of Yemen said, “The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia remains at the forefront in Yemen. Saudi Arabia was the first to realize the gravity of the danger and trouble in Yemen, and the Kingdom is the first to step forward to fulfill and champion the needs of Yemenis. Today, Saudi Arabia is the first, as usual, to build and construct. This is the Kingdom’s destiny not only for the land and people of Yemen, but for humankind as a whole.
We inaugurate today a number of significant development projects in a variety of service and educational sectors within the framework of the Saudi Reconstruction Program in Yemen, all of which point to the genuine fraternal spirit with which the Kingdom views its brothers in Yemen.
All gratitude and appreciate goes to the Kingdom’s leadership and the good people of Saudi Arabia. Thank you to my brother the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the Crown Prince. Thank you to the distinguished Ambassador Mohammed Al-Jabir for his sincere and dedicated efforts.”
Supervisor of the Saudi Reconstruction Program in Yemen H.E. Ambassador Mohammed Al-Jabir also affirmed the following:
“These projects, which center on the health, education, water, electricity, transport, and communications sectors, are a continuation of operations led by Saudi Arabia to support the brotherly Yemeni people. They indicate an increase in job opportunities and economic potential for Yemen, as well as the strengthening of the lasting spirit of partnership between our nations over decades in all fields.” H.E. the Ambassador continued: “We strive to restore optimism and a positive spirit to the people of Yemen while achieving security and stability, as well as, combating terror after the Iran-backed Houthi militias destroyed in 2014 Yemenis’ peaceful march and political process launched in 2011—and along with it, their lives and hopes.”
