The Command of the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen announced today that two Saudi navy sailors were killed in Houthi suicide boat attack on a Saudi frigate operating in the Red Sea. The command said that a Royal Saudi Naval frigate came under a terrorist attack by three Houthi suicide boats while on patrol west of the port of Hodeida.
The coalition said that the Saudi frigate dealt with the boats as necessary. However, one of the suicide boats managed to collide and detonate explosives against the rear of the frigate, killing two sailors and wounding three others. The explosion also resulted in a fire which the crew extinguished. The command added that the frigate continued its patrol in the area of operations while coalition air forces and the naval forces continued to chase the fleeing boats.
The command declares that the continuation of the Houthi militias' use of the port of Hodeida as a launching pad for terrorist operations is a serious development that would affect international navigation and the flow of humanitarian and medical assistance into the port for Yemeni population.
