Colonel Turki Al-Maliki, the spokesperson for the Coalition supporting the legitimate Yemeni government, stated that today, Monday, February 5, 2018 at 7:23 A.M. this morning Riyadh time, the Saudi Royal Air Defense Forces intercepted another ballistic missile launched by the Iranian-backed Houthi militias from the Sa’adah Governate in Yemen into the Kingdom.
Colonel Al-Maliki stated that the missile was targeting the city of Khamis Mushait, in the southwestern part of the Kingdom, and was deliberately launched towards civilian populated areas.
He also iterated that this hostile action by the Iranian-backed Houthi militia proves the continuous involvement of the Iranian regime in supporting the Houthi armed group in Yemen with tangible capabilities, which is a blatant violation of United Nations resolutions 2216 and 2231. These hostile actions of launching ballistic missiles toward densely populated cities and villages are threatening the security of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the region and international community, which is a violation of international humanitarian law.
Colonel Al-Maliki renewed his call to the international community to take more serious and effective steps to stop Iran's blatant violations of:
- continuing to smuggle and transfer ballistic missiles and other weapons to terrorist groups and militias.
- threatening regional and international security.
The Coalition countries renew their call to the international community to hold Iran accountable for its support and blatant defiance of international norms, values, and laws.
