Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz has called for a meeting of monotheistic religions in order to solve the pressing problems facing humanity. 

King Abdullah made the remarks today in a reception for delegates of the sixth forum for cultural dialogue between Japan and the Islamic world. 

“The idea is to request all religions to sit together with their brothers faithfully and sincerely as we all believe in the same God,” King Abdullah said. The dialogue would include Christianity, Judaism and Islam. 

In his remarks, King Abdullah emphasized the need for people of all faiths to return to God and confront the spread of atheism, the disintegration of the family structure and an overall lack of ethics. 

The King said that he presented the idea of holding such an interfaith meeting to Islamic scholars in Saudi Arabia and that they approved it. He also discussed the idea of dialogue among divine religions with Pope Benedict XVI at their November 2007 meeting at the Vatican. 

The King expressed the hope that that the delegates attending the forum would take this message to their respective countries. He also said that Saudi Arabia would hold a number of conferences to gather viewpoints of Muslims on the issue. 

During the reception, Japanese Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Osamu Onu told King Abdullah that there are more than 200,000 thousand Muslims and 40 mosques in Japan.
