His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz met today with Republican and Democratic congressional leaders including Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, Senate Majority and Minority Leaders, House Majority Leader, the Senate Majority Whip, Chair and Ranking members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Chairs and Ranking members of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, the Chair of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, and Chair of the House Committee on Homeland Security. His Royal Highness reaffirmed the importance of the Kingdom’s institutional relationship with all branches of the US government.
His Royal Highness highlighted the unprecedented levels of cooperation and the historic partnership between the two countries, and briefed the members on the Kingdom’s plans for economic transformation through Vision 2030, including recent reforms to empower women and youth in Saudi society.
His Royal Highness noted during these meetings the opportunities presented by the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 to develop an even closer economic relationship between Saudi Arabia and the United States, and the investment and trade agreements already in place that will create thousands of jobs in both countries.
His Royal Highness underscored Saudi Arabia’s commitment to its leading role concerning countering terrorism and extremism in close cooperation with the U.S. The Crown Prince also discussed the situation in Yemen, and how the two countries can work together towards a political solution while countering the threat posed by Iran and the Iran-backed Houthi militias, particularly the threat of Iranian ballistic missiles, and threats to strategic maritime shipping that threaten to destabilize the Gulf region at large. The Crown Prince also briefed members on the Kingdom’s efforts to address and alleviate the humanitarian situation in Yemen through the Yemen Comprehensive Humanitarian Operation Plan.
