Minister of Foreign Affairs Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir said today that the historical visit of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz to Washington and his meeting with President Barack Obama tomorrow in the White House comes within the framework of the distinctive and strong relations between the two countries.
In remarks to reporters today in Washington, the minister said the visit will focus on the strategic relations with the US and moving them to a new horizon to help serve the interests of the two peoples and the two countries as well as security and stability in the region.
With regard to Yemen, Minister Al-Jubeir said, “the strategic goal of both countries is one, which is the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2216 fully and without conditions, and trying to reach this through diplomatic channels or political work." The Foreign minister added that it is up to the Houthis and former president Ali Abdullah Saleh, who refuse to accept this decision and continue their military operations, and attempt to occupy more towns and villages, to bring the conflict to an end.
Minister Al-Jubeir added that the coalition forces and the forces of the legitimate government have been able to respond to these aggressive moves and achieve very important victories in different parts of Yemen, which led to a deterioration in the position of Houthis and Saleh loyalists. He hopes that these defeats will pave the way to finding a political solution to the crisis in Yemen.
