Today, the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen, along with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Yemen, spoke at a joint press conference in Riyadh to discuss details around a more comprehensive approach to relieve the suffering of the Yemeni people and address the humanitarian situation there with a long-term view. The full humanitarian response plan will be announced soon.
The statement details and overview can be found below, but there are three important points that we wanted to highlight:
- As of today, the Coalition has opened the Hodeidah Port for all shipments, augmenting the previous entry of humanitarian aid to now include all commercial shipments including goods and fuel, for 30 days. This time period is to allow
- The Kingdom’s Ambassador to Yemen provided an overview of the comprehensive humanitarian plan, which includes the permission for entry of the UN’s four cranes into Hodeidah Port; improving the capacity of other ports in Yemen; establishing safe passage corridors to ensure safe distribution of aid and commercial goods; and utilizing the Port of Jizan if needed.
- The Coalition Spokesperson discussed the detrimental impact and continuous threats posed in Yemen and the region by Iran’s influence and support of the Houthi militia. He also distilled further details related to humanitarian access, as well as, provided updates on military operations on the ground.
