Foreign Minister Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir met today with French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius at the Foreign Ministry in Riyadh.
Following their meeting the two ministers held a joint press conference in which Minister Al-Jubeir highlighted the talks with the French minister which dealt with the work provided by the Joint Committee between the two countries co-headed by Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Second Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, the French Minister of Foreign Affairs and what have been achieved at the level of political, economic, security, social and educational relations, pointing out the meeting between the Deputy Crown Prince and the French Foreign Minister.
Minister Al-Jubeir added that they discussed the latest developments in the region, including the Palestinian cause and importance of finding a method to resume negotiations with an aim to finding a solution to the conflict in addition to addressing the Syrian file and a possible mechanism to implement initiatives of Geneva 1 and what was agreed at Vienna and New York. Minister Al-Jubeir stressed that the Syrian opposition is the only one that can determine its representatives in the talks and the Supreme Committee that emerged from the Riyadh conference is the concerned body to determine its representatives in the negotiations. “No one should dictate to the Syrian opposition who represents them at peace talks,” the minister said.
Foreign Minister Al-Jubeir stressed that they also discussed issue of negotiations under the umbrella of the United Nations between the opposition and the regime. “We discussed with the French foreign minister the latest developments in Yemen as well as the negative role of Iran and its interference in the affairs of countries in the region," Minister Al-Jubeir added. He pointing out that he briefed the French foreign minister on the Islamic Military Alliance to combat terrorism and extremism.
