On behalf of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz patronized the awards ceremony for the 36th King Faisal International Prize in Riyadh this evening.
Upon arrival at the Prince Sultan Grand Hall at the Faisaliah Center, the Crown Prince was greeted by Minister of Education Prince Khaled Al-Faisal bin Abdulaziz, who serves as Director General of the King Faisal Foundation and Chairman of the King Faisal International Prize Commission. The ceremony was also attended by Deputy Crown Prince Muqrin bin Abdulaziz; Nigerian Vice President Namadi Sambo; and a number of other senior officials.
Then, Secretary General of the King Faisal International Prize Dr. Abdullah Al-Saleh Al-Othaimeen announced the winners. The Prize for Service to Islam was awarded to Dr. Ahmed Lemu of Nigeria. The Prize for Islamic Studies was awarded to Professor Abdulwahab Abou Sulaiman of Saudi Arabia. The Prize for Arabic Language and Literature was awarded to Dr. Abdullah Ibrahim of Iraq. The Prize for Medicine was awarded to Professor Yuk Ming Dennis Lo of China and the United Kingdom. The Prize for Mathematics was awarded to Professor Gerd Faltings of Germany.
After the ceremony concluded, Crown Prince Salman and the winners attended a dinner banquet.
