(WASHINGTON, DC) – Saudi Ambassador to the United States Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir today addressed the 23rd annual Arab-U.S. Policymakers Conference hosted by the National Council on U.S.-Arab Relations in Washington, D.C. Ambassador Al-Jubeir described the historical and modern day significance of the Saudi-U.S. relationship and its role when facing critical challenges both domestically and internationally.
King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, who is also Honorary Chairman of the World Scout Foundation, today presented the Messengers of Peace Hero Award 2014 to Saudi Arabia’s Permanent Representative to the U.N., Ambassador Faisal bin Hassan Trad, and Saudi Consul General in Geneva, Salah Al-Muraiqib. The award was in recognition of their personal and practical efforts in support of the Messengers of Peace Project. The award was presented at the 68th World Scout Association meeting in Geneva, Switzerland.
(WASHINGTON, DC) - Saudi Arabia convicted 27 defendants this week and sentenced them to between six months to 30 years in prison for terrorist-relating crimes, including plotting attacks against U.S. forces in Kuwait and Qatar. The defendants belong to a 41-member terrorist cell and the trials are taking place in Riyadh.
(WASHINGTON, DC) - In a speech at the Homeland and Global Security Forum organized by the Crans Montana Forum, held in Geneva on Friday, Dr. Ahmed Al-Salem, Saudi Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, stressed that the fight against extremist ideology is an important part of any strategy to combat terrorism.
During his speech, Dr. Al-Salem said that terrorism poses a global threat to all people in the world. “From our experience, it has become crystal clear that terror has no religion, no ethnicity and no nationality,” said Dr. Al-Salem.
(WASHINGTON, DC) - The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia donated $12 million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) to help affected Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. The donation was announced today in a statement issued by the Saudi Embassy in Amman, Jordan.
(WASHINGTON, DC) - According to the Saudi Ministry of Interior, an American citizen was fatally shot today at a gas station in eastern Riyadh. He was accompanied by two colleagues. One of the colleagues was injured during the attack while the other remained unharmed. The assailant, Abdulaziz Fahad Abdulaziz Alrashid, was apprehended following a shootout with Saudi security forces during which he was wounded. Alrashid worked at the same company as the victims, and was recently dismissed from his job due to drug related issues.
(WASHINGTON, DC) - On behalf of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, held the annual reception ceremony yesterday in Mina for Islamic leaders, heads of Hajj missions and guests of King Abdullah. Prince Salman delivered a speech on behalf of King Abdullah, who vowed that Saudi Arabia will continue its relentless efforts in fighting terrorism and extremism.
