(WASHINGTON, DC) - The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz issued a royal decree on Thursday appointing Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz as Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.
Prior to the announcement, King Abdullah held a meeting with the Allegiance-Pledge Commission, which was established as part of a new law of succession announced in 2006 to formalize the royal succession and to ensure a smooth transfer of power.

The Ministers of Culture of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states convened their 17th meeting in Abu Dhabi yesterday. The Saudi delegation was led by Minister of Culture and Information Dr. Abdulaziz bin Mohieddin Khoja.
(WASHINGTON, DC) - Saudi Arabia inaugurated its first solar power plant on October 1 as it continues to diversify its energy sources. The 500-kilowatt plant, located on Farasan Island, will save the equivalent of transferring 28,000 barrels of diesel fuel to the island annually.
The plant was constructed by the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) and Showa Shell Sekiyu K.K., a Japanese energy company partly owned by the Saudi Arabian Oil Company. This is one of the many initiatives led by SEC to introduce clean energy throughout the Kingdom.
Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, President of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA), met in Riyadh yesterday with the President of the Smithsonian Institution and Museum, Dr. Julian Raby. During the meeting, preparations were discussed for bringing an exhibition, entitled “Saudi Arabia’s Archaeological Masterpieces through the Ages,” to the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, D.C. next year. Prince Sultan recently attended the opening ceremony of the show at the Museum of Hermitage in St. Petersburg, Russia.
Prince Sultan bin Salman, President of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities, signed an agreement in Riyadh today with Exxon Mobil Saudi Arabia Inc. stipulating that the latter will sponsor a series of Saudi antiquities exhibitions in the United States. The shows will be held in a number of American cities from 2012-2013.
