Steven Beshear, the Governor of the U.S. state of Kentucky, and Prince Nawaf bin Faisal bin Fahd, the Vice President of Youth Welfare, opened a five-month exhibition entitled “A Gift from the Desert: The Art, History and Culture of the Arabian Horse” in Lexington, Kentucky last night. The event, which cost $2.3 million, is being sponsored by the Saudi Arabian Equestrian Federation and will feature more than 350 pieces of art and artifacts collected from museums and individuals around the world.
Education Minister Prince Faisal bin Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Saud, who serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Saudi Equestrian Fund, arrived in the U.S.
The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz began the Cabinet meeting at Al-Yamamah Palace today with a briefing on the 12th Consultative Meeting Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Leaders, which he attended last Tuesday in Riyadh. The King also detailed the talks he held with visiting officials last week, including Crown Prince Guillaume of Luxembourg and Middle East Peace Quartet Envoy Tony Blair, and a telephone call he received from Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir.

The Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Washington opened its doors to the public on May 1, offering cultural and educational activities as part of the third annual Passport DC cultural tourism program. More than 2,000 visitors attended the event, which featured traditional Saudi food, art, clothing, musical performances, folk dancing, Henna painting and a variety of other educational and entertaining offerings. Staff members of the Embassy and the Cultural Attaché Office, along with a number of Saudi students, were on hand to guide visitors through the various displays.
