(WASHINGTON, DC) - The four-day Conference of Terrorism between Intellectual Extremism and Extremist Ideology concluded yesterday in Madinah. The conference was organized by the Islamic University of Madinah in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior. It was held within the framework of the directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz.
The 10th session of the “Conference on Terrorism: Between Intellectual Extremism and Extremist Ideology,” organized by the Islamic University in Madinah, concluded its proceedings today. A final statement was issued calling upon the Arab and Muslim media to broadcast programs that promote dialogue and increase awareness of Islam’s moderate and tolerant nature. The conference rejected the distorted portrayal of Muslims by various media outlets and recommended that the Muslim World League (MWL) establish an Islamic Information Commission for the improvement of the image of Islam.

(WASHINGTON, DC) - Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz, the Second Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of Saudi Arabia, on Sunday delivered the keynote remarks at the opening ceremony of “The Conference of Terrorism Between Intellectual Extremism and Extremist Ideology.” The conference is being held at the directive of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz and was organized by the Islamic University of Madinah in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior.
An official Saudi source delivered the following statement in response to remarks made by the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during his visit to the United States:
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia condemns the remarks of the Israeli Occupation Authority’s Prime Minister in which he openly disrespects the legitimate rights of Palestinians, Arabs and Muslims in the occupied Holy City of Al-Quds (Jerusalem)—completely disregarding any consideration of serious international efforts to resume the peace process.

He began with a briefing on his recent foreign contacts, including meetings in Al-Janadriyah with Bahraini King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khlaifah, UAE Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al-Nahayyan, French Minister of Culture Frederic Mitterrand and Director General of the United Nations Education, Sciences and Culture Organization (UNESCO) Irina Bokova.

(WASHINGTON, DC) - The Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia has launched a Twitter feed, @SaudiEmbassyUSA to enhance distribution of current news and information related to the Kingdom. The account will be used in conjunction with Saudi Embassy's YouTube channel, which features press conferences and video related to Saudi Arabia, as well as third-party speeches and interviews.
Under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz and French President Nicolas Sarkozy, the Saudi Ministry of Higher Education, in partnership with the Sorbonne University, organized the Second Saudi Forum on the Dialogue of Civilizations in Paris on March 15-16. Participants reviewed various issues, including the promotion of dialogue between civilizations, the Islamic economy and the importance of culture and identity. A number of distinguished academics and researchers from Saudi and French universities attended the event.
President of the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) Dr. Mohammed Al-Suwaiyel met in Riyadh today with Chairman of the Board of Directors of Google Dr. Eric Schmidt. They discussed ways of promoting cooperation on mutually beneficial projects, especially in the fields of machine translation, enrichment of Arabic content on the worldwide web and open-source software. Saudi Arabia tops Arab countries in the use of Google’s search engines.
The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz began the Cabinet session in Riyadh today with a briefing on his talks last week with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Haris Silajdzic, Jordanian Prime Minister Zaid Rifai, U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Sultanov; and Qatari State Security Chief Mohammad Al-Musnad. The King also briefed the Cabinet on the messages he received from Jordanian King Abdullah II and Libyan President Muammar Al-Qaddafi.
The fourth FM radio license was awarded to Electronic Resources Ltd., Minister of Culture and Information Dr. Abdulaziz Khoja announced Saturday. One more FM radio license will be awarded within the next two weeks.
Electronic Resources bid SR68 million ($18.13 billion) for the license.
Over 73 percent of people in Saudi Arabia listen to radio programs, with over half of them tuning into radio on a daily basis, mostly while driving, according to a new study by the Arab Advisers Group, Saudi Gazette reported today.

(WASHINGTON, DC) - Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz delivered the keynote address yesterday at the inauguration of the annual session of the Majlis Al-Shura (Consultative Council). His speech addressed a variety of issues, including employment, education, counterterrorism, women’s rights, economic policies, oil prices, the Arab-Israeli conflict and humanitarian aid. The audience included members of the Saudi royal family, foreign diplomats, ministers and senior government officials.

The event, which lasts for ten days, is being attended by more than 650 publishing houses from more than 30 countries displaying over 250,000 titles in Arabic, English and French.
