I thank the Honorable Prime Minister of Great Britain for inviting us all to this timely and important meeting. I wish also to welcome the participation of the Prime Minister of Yemen and our brothers from Yemen, and to express my gratitude to the Honorable David Miliband, the Foreign and Commonwealth Secretary, for the hospitality and excellent organization of this event.
(WASHINGTON, DC) - The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia affirmed its support for the government of Yemen at the High Level Conference on Yemen in London, convened January 27 by British Prime Minister Gordon Brown. The conference, which was attended by more than 61 countries and a dozen organizations, intends to address strategies to stabilize and ensure peace in Yemen.
(WASHINGTON, DC) - The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has pledged $150 million to the nation of Afghanistan over three years to support the creation of programs and institutions to rebuild the country. The funds follow an initial pledge of $200 million made by the Kingdom to at a donors’ conference in Tokyo in April 2009. The new pledge was announced at Afghanistan: The London Conference, convened January 28 by British Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
(WASHINGTON, DC) - Today, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the Kingdom’s donation of $50 million in relief funding to Haiti following the earthquake that devastated the island two weeks ago. The assistance was initiated by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz and will be distributed through the fund established by the United Nations for Haiti.
Minister of Culture and Information Dr. Abdulaziz Khoja headed the Saudi delegation to an extraordinary session of the Council of Arab Information Ministers in Cairo today. The meeting was attended by Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa, Egyptian Minister of Culture Farouk Hosni and officials from several other Arab countries.
(WASHINGTON, DC) – The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Scholarship Program, inaugurated in 2006, has sent 62,000 students to colleges and universities around the world.
Undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education for Scholarship Affairs, Dr. Abdullah bin Al-Moussa, also announced that as the scholarship program heads into its fifth year, it has placed students in 24 countries and nine specialized programs including ones focused on medicine, finance and engineering, among others.

Saudi government officials and religious scholars – including and especially King Abdullah – have been outspoken in their condemnation of religious intolerance, extremism and terrorism, in Saudi Arabia and around the world.
This has been the case in speeches, pronouncements and media interviews – in print and online, and on radio and television.
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has won the King Faisal International Prize (KFIP) for Service to Islam for the year 1430H [2010], Makkah Governor Prince Khalid Al-Faisal announced at a press conference in Riyadh last night. The Turkish leader was recognized for his achievements in the political and administrative spheres and his demonstration of judicious leadership in the Islamic world.
Minister of Culture and Information Dr. Abdulaziz Khoja addressed the closing ceremony of the “AIDS and the Media Conference” held in Jeddah last night. Speaking to the gathering, he thanked the conference participants and noted that the Islam calls on people to support one another. “This is what we should do, especially with people infected with AIDS, in order to stop the spread of the disease,” Dr. Khoja said. The media, he noted, plays an important and active role in the prevention of AIDS by publicizing its effects on the society.
President of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA) Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz received U.S. Ambassador James B. Smith in Riyadh today. During their meeting, they discussed a number of topics pertaining to tourism and antiquities cooperation between the Kingdom and the United States.
