Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz has called for a meeting of monotheistic religions in order to solve the pressing problems facing humanity.
King Abdullah made the remarks today in a reception for delegates of the sixth forum for cultural dialogue between Japan and the Islamic world.
“The idea is to request all religions to sit together with their brothers faithfully and sincerely as we all believe in the same God,” King Abdullah said. The dialogue would include Christianity, Judaism and Islam.
The sixth forum for cultural dialogue between Japan and the Islamic world opened in Riyadh yesterday.
The theme of the three-day forum is “Culture and Respect for Religions.” It was organized by the Institute of Diplomatic Studies and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Department of Islamic Affairs.
Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Dr. Nizar Madani opened the forum on behalf of Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Saud Al-Faisal.
Governor of Riyadh Province Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz will open the Prince Ahmed bin Salman Institute for Applied Media on April 27, the Arab News reported today.
Prince Faisal bin Salman, chairman of the Saudi Research & Marketing Group (SRMG), made the announcement yesterday.
“The institute is first of its kind in the Kingdom, and is specialized in providing technical, design and practical training to prospective journalists and mediapersons,” Prince Faisal said, as quoted in the Arab News.
The King Faisal International Prizes for 2008 were presented at a ceremony in Riyadh last night. Prizes were awarded in four categories: Arabic Language and Literature, Science, Medicine and Service to Islam.
Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz won the prize for Service to Islam recognition of his service to Muslims both in Saudi Arabia and abroad.
In remarks on the occasion, King Abdullah said that he accepted the prize on behalf of every Muslim man and woman who served Islam out of the limelight without expectation of any reward.
Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz met with distinguished guests of the National Guard who are attending the 23rd Jenadriyah Heritage and Culture Festival, which began this past week.
The guests included Muslim scholars, intellectuals and members of the media from Saudi Arabia and abroad.
The weeklong Jenadriyah Heritage and Culture Festival showcases Saudi Arabia’s rich cultural heritage with exhibits including traditional arts and crafts, poetry, singing and dancing. It is organized each year by the National Guard.

After recitations from the Holy Qur’an, the festival kicked off with a traditional camel race.
