Crown Prince chairs Cabinet session (12/2/13)

Crown Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz chaired the Cabinet session at Al-Yamamah Palace in Riyadh this afternoon. The meeting began with a briefing on the latest regional and international developments, as well reports on local issues.

Marking the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, the Cabinet renewed the Kingdom’s call for the international community to support the efforts of the Palestinians to gain their rights, end their suffering, and push forward with the peace process. It reiterated the importance of the establishment of a comprehensive solution that leads to the creation of an independent Palestinian state.

The Cabinet was briefed on the outcome of the 129th session of the Foreign Ministers Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in Kuwait, which was held to prepare for the 34th meeting of the GCC leaders. Furthermore, the ministers commended the proceedings of the 32nd meeting of the GCC Interior Ministers Council in Bahrain, which called for the enhancement of security cooperation between the GCC states.

The Council of Ministers welcomed the recommendations issued by the World Conference on the Prophet (peace be upon him) and His Rights on Humanity, organized by the Islamic University of Madinah, which called for the criminalization of abuse against the world’s honored prophets and apostles.

Next, the Cabinet heard a report on the developments following the expiration of the deadline for violators of residency and work regulations in the Kingdom to correct their legal status. It stressed that ample opportunity was given to offenders to correct their statuses, penalty-free, and that the application of the Kingdom’s regulations is being undertaken in a fair and just manner, in-line with international regulations and conventions.

Finally, the Council commended the opening of the 2013 Innovation Exhibition, held under the theme “With innovation, we build a knowledge-based society,” on behalf of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz by Minister of Education Prince Faisal bin Abdullah bin Muhammad.

Addressing its remaining agenda items, the Cabinet approved the appointment of Deputy Minister of Economy and Planning Mohammed Al-Daham to the Board of Directors of the General Organization for Saudi Arabian Airlines; approved increases in the Kingdom’s shares in the capital of the Arab Monetary Fund, the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, and the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa; approved the appointments of Dr. Azzam Dakhil and Khalid Khowaiter as private sector members on the Board of Directors of the Saline Water Conversion Corporation for a period of three years; and approved an agreement with Uzbekistan regarding the encouragement and reciprocal protection of investments.

The Cabinet approved the appointments of Abdulrahman Al-Hamad as Consultant Civil Engineer at the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs; Saleh Al-Ghamdi as Regions Affairs’ Adviser at the Ministry of Interior; Dakhail-Allah bin Mahmood bin Dakhail-Allah as Assistant Undersecretary for Security Affairs at the Ministry of Interior; Mohammed Althabit as Consultant of Salaries and Allowances at the Ministry of Civil Service; and Suleiman Albatli as Director General of the General Office of the President at the General Presidency at the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice. All the appointments were made at the 14th rank.
