KAU climate change research center inaugurated

King Abdulaziz University (KAU) President Osama Tayyeb launched yesterday a new KAU Center dedicated to climate change research and possessing a budget of SR 14 million ($3.73 million).

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, KAU Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research Dr. Adnan Zahid noted that the endeavor is in line with the initiative of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz to support international climate change research. He also hailed the transformation of KAU into a leading research university.

Dr. Mansour Al-Mazroui, the director of the new center, said that the facility will provide a congenial atmosphere for scientists to conduct environmental research and to assess the impact of climate change on water supplies and other natural resources. Furthermore, the center will strive to raise public awareness regarding a critical issue and will nurture new generations of researchers.
