King Abdullah chairs Cabinet meeting

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz opened the weekly Cabinet meeting in Riyadh today with a briefing on his latest contacts with foreign leaders and envoys. Afterwards, Second Deputy Prime Minister Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz outlined his recent trip to Egypt, during which he met with President Hosni Mubarak and attended the 6th Iraqi Neighbors’ Meeting in Sharm Al-Sheikh.
The Cabinet was briefed on the meeting of Islamic culture ministers held last week in Azerbaijan, which focused on boosting interfaith dialogue and rejecting extremism. The ministers then welcomed the U.N. Human Rights Council’s adoption of the Goldstone Report on Israeli aggression in Gaza, citing it as an indication that the majority of the international community is opposed to Israeli practices in the Palestinian territories.
Moving on to its agenda items, the Cabinet approved the Kingdom’s accession to the Convention on the Safety of United Nations and Associated Personnel; empowered the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu to administer the Ras Alzoor Zone for Mineral Industries, according to the regulations included in royal decree number m/75, dated 16/9/1395 H; approved the appointment of Dr. Mohammad Khoshaim as the Ministry of Health’s representative at the Board of Directors of the General Organization for Social Insurance; and authorized the Minister of Finance to sign a draft agreement with Croatia on avoiding tax duplication and preventing tax evasion.
The Cabinet then approved the appointment of Abdulaziz Al-Miflih as Director General of the Minister’s Office at the Ministry of Justice; Dr. Abdulmohsin Iraqi as Director General of External Information in Jeddah at the Ministry of Culture and Information; Sultan Al-Sultan as Director General of the Review of Accounts of the Governmental Civil Sector at the General Auditing Bureau; and Ibrahim Ala’bdilkareem as Director General of Administrative and Financial Affairs at the General Presidency for Virtue Promotion and Vice Prevention. All the appointments were made at the 14th rank.
