Congressmen Ellison: U.S.-Saudi ties strengthened by business

October 17, 2009

Business exchanges are a good way of strengthening ties between the United States and Saudi Arabia, U.S. Congressman Keith Ellison said yesterday at an event in Washington. Speaking at the 18th Annual National Council for U.S.-Arab Relations Conference, Rep. Ellison said that while the ties between Saudi Arabia and the U.S. have historically been strong, commercial relations have been particularly important. “Business is where we can come together,” he said, calling it “a point of agreement.”

Rep. Ellison, who is the first Muslim to serve in the U.S. Congress, also praised Saudi Arabia’s extensive scholarship program, noting that there are currently over 21,000 Saudi students studying in the United States. Such exchanges, he said, will help create a “better, stronger, more comprehensive relationship than ever before.”
