King Abdullah chairs Cabinet session

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz chaired the Cabinet’s weekly session at Al-Salam palace in Jeddah this evening. The Cabinet congratulated all Muslims on the advent of the holy month of Ramadan, wishing them successful fasting. The ministers received a briefing on the Saudi humanitarian relief airlift for flood victims in Pakistan, as well as the launching of King Abdullah’s Popular Campaign for the Relief of the Pakistani People, and urged Saudis to contribute to the aid efforts.
On the domestic front, the Cabinet welcomed the royal order issued by King Abdullah confining the issuing of fatwas (religious edicts) to members of the Senior Ulema Commission and giving the Commission the opportunity to nominate whomever they deem eligible to take part in or issue a fatwa. The Cabinet also expressed sorrow on the death of Dr. Ghazi bin Abdulrahman Al-Qusaibi, Minister of Labor, who passed away Sunday evening, and listened to an account of his accomplishments.
Turning to its weekly agenda, the Cabinet clarified that the Council’s resolution No. 239, dated 27/8/1425 H., is to be applied to express mail drivers affiliating to the Main Supply Department of the Maintenance Corps of the Land Forces and similar units; approved a diplomatic and consular cooperation agreement with Qatar; approved two memoranda of understanding on bilateral political consultations with Cuba and the Ukraine; agreed to continue work, according to paragraphs 1 & 2 of the Cabinet’s resolution No. 7, dated 1/1/1422 H., regarding the importation of Palestinian goods and products with the Saudi government shouldering their customs duties for one year, effective 11/9/1431H.; and agreed to initiate the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Prize for honoring innovators and the talented.
The Cabinet approved the appointments of Faisal bin Ali bin Saleh Al-Zeben as Consultant for Transport Affairs at the Ministry of Transport; Abdulwahab bin Mahmoud bin Abdulwahab Sheikh Ali as Minister Plenipotentiary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Ibrahim bin Saleh bin Ali Al-Raqiba as Director General for Water at the Ministry of Water and Electricity’s Qassim Province branch; and Suleiman bin Abdulrahman bin Ibrahim Al-Sha’alan as Civil Consultant Engineer at the Ministry of Water and Electricity.
