OIC condemns anti-Islam conference in Cologne

August 10, 2008

The Jeddah-based Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) has expressed serious concern about reports that a far right group plans to hold an anti-Islam conference in Cologne, Germany in September.

In a statement issued yesterday, a spokesman for the OIC’s Islamophobia Observatory in Jeddah said that the proposed conference intended to stir up anti-Muslim sentiments in Europe and that it would pose a threat to inter-communal peace and harmony in society.

The spokesman added that the organizers of the event are motive by racial hatred and xenophobia. He also expressed the hope that Germany and other European nations would strongly oppose the conference and reject those who seek to promote hatred and racism.
