King Abdullah arrives in Syria

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz arrived in Damascus today, beginning the second leg of a four country tour that will include Egypt, Syria, Lebanon and Jordan. At Damascus International Airport, the King and his delegation were received by Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad.

Afterwards, King Abdullah and President Al-Assad headed to the People’s Palace, where they held bilateral talks. The discussion focused on a number of Arab and Islamic issues, especially the Mideast Peace Process and the need to establish a Palestinian state based on the Arab Peace Plan. The talks also covered the situations in Iraq and Lebanon – specifically the urgent need to achieve national reconciliation in order to maintain the peace and territorial integrity of those countries. Bilateral relations were also discussed.

The session was attended by the King’s official delegation, including Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal; Chief of General Intelligence Prince Miqren bin Abdulaziz; Education Minister Prince Faisal bin Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Saud; Advisors to the King Prince Turki bin Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Saud, Prince Abdulaziz bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, Prince Mansour bin Nasser bin Abdulaziz, and Prince Bandar bin Salman bin Mohammed Al-Saud; Prince Mansour bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz; Finance Minister Dr. Ibrahim Al-Assaf; and Minister of Culture and Information Dr. Abdulaziz Khoja.
