Agenda set for upcoming Arab summit in Damascus

July 28, 2008

Arab foreign ministers have approved the agenda for the upcoming Arab summit at a preparatory meeting in Damascus today.

The summit, which begins March 29, will address issues including the Palestinian situation, the peace process, the political crisis in Lebanon, Iraq, the crisis in Darfur, Somalia and nuclear issues. Preparations for the 2009 Arab Economic Summit in Kuwait will also be discussed.

The Saudi delegation to the Damascus summit is led by Saudi Arabia’s Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Ahmed Kattan. In remarks at a preparatory meeting earlier this week, Kattan called for Arab solidarity and unity to confront the political, economic and social challenges facing the Arab world.
