Prince Nayef chairs Cabinet meeting

Second Deputy Prime Minister Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz began the Cabinet meeting in Jeddah today by conveying the reassurances of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah that Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz is in good health. The King traveled to Agadir on July 23 to visit the Crown Prince, who is resting in Morocco following successful surgery earlier this year.
Prince Nayef then briefed the Cabinet on King Abdullah’s communications with foreign leaders and officials last week, including a message he received from French President Nicolas Sarkozy and his face-to-face meeting with General David Petraeus, head of U.S. Central Command.
The Cabinet welcomed The Hague’s ruling on the demarcation of borders in Abyei, describing the decision as a positive step towards enhancing stability and encouraging peaceful coexistence.
The ministers also hailed the outcome of the emergency meeting of Arab Health Ministers held in Cairo on July 22, during which strategies were discussed to prevent the spread of the H1N1 virus (swine flu) during the Hajj season. The Cabinet endorsed plans to organize a consultative meeting with the Heads of Medical Missions to make sure the preventative measures are fully adopted.
Turning to its agenda, the Cabinet authorized the Second Deputy Prime Minister to negotiate a draft agreement with Jordan on the transfer of prisoners; approved the final statement of accounts of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities for fiscal year 1427/1428 H; approved the Saudi Employment Strategy, which aims at increasing employment and productivity; and authorized the Minister of Social Affairs to sign an agreement with Egypt for the creation of an executive program for cooperation in the field of social affairs.
Finally, the Cabinet approved the appointment of Ibrahim Al-Shithri as Administrative Advisor at the Riyadh Governorate (15th rank); Saad Al-Shihri as Director General of the National Center for Meteorology and Environment Protection at the General Presidency of Meteorology and Environment Protection (14th rank); Salih Ala’mairah as Secretary of the Regional Council at the Riyadh Governorate (14th rank); Nabil Al-Twail as Advisor for Rights Affairs at the Riyadh Governorate (14th rank); and Abdullah Al-Qarni as Undersecretary of the Mayor for Services in the Eastern Region Municipality (14th rank).
