July 18, 2009

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz sent a cable to Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono today, offering his condolences for those killed and injured in yesterday’s bombings of the Ritz Carlton and J.W. Marriott hotels in Jakarta. The King denounced the terrorist acts as criminal and sinful. A similar cable of condolence was sent by Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz.

The bombings were also strongly condemned today by Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, the Secretary General of the Jeddah-based Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC). Expressing his outrage over the senseless killings, he insisted that such acts run counter to the peaceful values of Islam and stressed the need for the authorities to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice. Furthermore, the Secretary General reiterated the OIC’s firm opposition to terrorism in all its manifestations, irrespective of motivations or justifications, and expressed solidarity with the government of Indonesia in its struggle against terrorism.
