Crown Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz chaired the Cabinet session at Al-Salam Palace in Jeddah this evening. The Council began by commending the address of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz and the Crown Prince delivered on the eve of the holy month of Ramadan. In the speech, the Saudi leadership confirmed that Islam is the religion of love, forgiveness and tolerance and that it promotes peace and dialogue, while rejecting division.

The Cabinet also expressed its thanks to King Abdullah for the attention and care he has provided towards the construction and expansion projects of the Two Holy Mosques.

Turning to international events, the Cabinet listened to a number of reports on regional developments, including the situation in Syria. The ministers deplored the suffering of the Syrian people during the holy month of Ramadan, which is being caused by the sieges and human rights violations directed against them. They reiterated the Kingdom’s appeal to the international community to put an end to the genocide and starvation faced by the Syrian people and to enable the delivery of relief aid.

The Cabinet also noted the suffering of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, caused by serious medical conditions and extremely harsh treatment. It stressed the importance of concerted efforts by international humanitarian organizations to intervene on behalf of the Palestinian people.

Reviewing economic affairs, the Cabinet listened to a briefing from the Minister of Finance on the outcome of the Article IV consultations between the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Kingdom. It welcomed the IMF’s report, which noted that Saudi Arabia has had one of the best performing economies of the G-20 countries in recent years.

Addressing its remaining agenda items, the Cabinet approved a regulation on municipal solid waste management; authorized the President of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities to sign a draft Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation in the field of tourism with the Mexican Ministry of Tourism; approved a number of regulations regarding domestic workers; and approved the appointments of Mohammed Al-Khudair and Abdul-Wahab Al-Fayez as members of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Press Agency for a period of three years.
