King Abdullah receives U.S. Treasury Secretary

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz received U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and his accompanying delegation at the King Fahd Cultural Center in Yanbu Industrial City today. During the meeting, issues of common interest were discussed. Secretary Geithner also conveyed the greetings of U.S. President Barack Obama to the King.
The session was attended by Second Deputy Prime Minister Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz; Adviser to the King Prince Abdul-Ellah bin Abdulaziz; Minister of Education Prince Faisal bin Mohammed Al Saud; Minister of Finance Dr. Ibrahim Al-Assaf; and Charge d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in the Kingdom Richard Erdmann.
Earlier, Secretary Geithner held a meeting with Saudi businessmen at the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He delivered a speech in which he praised the economic ties between the United States and the Kingdom in particular, and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states in general, describing these ties as part of the strong strategic partnership between the U.S. and the GCC states. “The United States and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have a long legacy of economic relations,” he said.
Secretary Geithner also hailed the important steps taken by Saudi Arabia to combat the financing of terrorist groups and the spread of nuclear weapons.
