Arab Information Ministers meet in Cairo

June 17, 2009

Minister of Culture and Information Dr. Abdulaziz Khojah led the Saudi delegation to the 42nd Session of the Arab Information Ministers Council held today at the Arab League’s headquarters in Cairo. The theme of the meeting was “Intellectual Property in New Media.”

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Khojah asserted that the Arab world must view the media through a prism of modernity and global change. He emphasized that dialogue and the acceptance of differences of opinion form the basis of modern media.

Dr. Khojah stressed the Kingdom’s commitment to a five-year plan – approved earlier by the Council – aimed at enhancing Arab media outlets abroad. Since 2008, Saudi Arabia has contributed SR 4.73 million [$1.26 million] to support the initiative.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Arab Information Ministers approved a number of decisions, including a recommendation for members of the Arab media to continue confronting the phenomenon of terrorism.
