King Abdullah meets with UN Secretary-General

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz met with United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon at the royal palace in Jeddah today.

Secretary-General Ban arrived in the Kingdom earlier today for a brief official visit.

During their meeting, King Abdullah and Secretary Ban discussed regional and international issues, in particular the Palestinian situation, the Middle East peace process, Iraq, Lebanon, Sudan, Somalia as well as UN efforts to resolve conflicts in the region.

Ban welcomed Saudi Arabia’s support for UN relief efforts around the world, most notably its recent $500 million donation to the World Food Program.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Saud Al-Faisal also attended the meeting.

In related news, Prince Saud met today with the newly appointed Director-General of the UN office in Saudi Arabia, Riyadh Al-Ahmed.
