Two Saudi Border Guards killed, one injured by infiltrator

The Ministry of Interior announced today that two Border Guards were killed and another injured in a gun battle with an infiltrator along the southern border with Yemen in Najran Province.

Ministry of Interior Spokesman Maj. Gen. Mansour Al-Turki said that in the early hours of Tuesday, June 7, Saudi Border Guard patrols at Al-Wadiah area in Najran Province witnessed a person trying to breach the Saudi-Yemeni border by driving a four-wheel SUV into Yemen through metal and sand berm barriers.  When approached, the suspect opened heavy machine gunfire at the Border Guards, killing Col. Abdul-Jalil Sharie Al-Otaibi and Sergeant Barrak bin Ali Al-Harthi, and wounding Sergeant Abboud bin Faleh Al-Aklabi.  During a chase and gun battle in the rugged terrain, the infiltrator was killed.  A search of the vehicle uncovered a large quantity of ammunition.  An investigation has been launched by the competent authorities and an announcement on the findings will be made later.
