King Abdullah sends cable of solidarity to Lebanese President
May 23, 2012
The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz sent a cable of solidarity yesterday to Lebanese President Michael Suleiman following the tragic and deadly sectarian violence in Lebanon. In his message, the King said that he is following with great concern the events that occurred in the Lebanese city of Tripoli targeting a particular religious sect. He noted that the Kingdom has always been committed to assisting Lebanon from a security, political and economic standpoint. However, he said, external assistance can never resolve the problem unless all of Lebanon’s factions cooperate and put the national interest ahead of their sectarian interests. Furthermore, he warned, the interference of foreign powers and the spillover from the crisis in Syria also threaten to stir up trouble in Lebanon.
After receiving the cable, President Suleiman called King Abdullah. During the conversation, the two leaders discussed bilateral relations and the situation in Lebanon, as well as other regional developments.
