Crown Prince chairs Cabinet session (5/13/13)

Crown Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz chaired the weekly Cabinet session at Al-Salam Palace in Jeddah this afternoon. The Cabinet began by noting Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah’s visit to the Kingdom to meet with the Saudi Crown Prince.

Then, a briefing was given on the latest developments in the region and the world. The ministers reiterated their call for the redoubling of international efforts to resolve the crisis in Syria in order to bring an end to the bloodshed of the Syrian people. Regarding Israel, the Cabinet condemned the arrest of the Mufti of Al-Quds [Jerusalem] Sheikh Mohammed Hussein, as well as the approval of the construction of 296 new housing units in a West Bank settlement. It also condemned the bombings in the town of Rihaniya in southern Turkey that killed and injured dozens of people, expressing condolences to the victims and reiterating the Kingdom’s rejection of all forms of terrorism.

Reviewing the international conferences in which Saudi representatives participated last week, the Cabinet discussed the proceedings of the 4th Petersburg Climate Dialogue in Berlin and the 4th Annual Energy Forum in Istanbul. Turning to the cultural and economic conferences held inside the Kingdom, it noted the outcomes of the Coordination Forum of Universities and Institutions Concerned With the Arabic Language in the Countries of the Arab Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC); the final ceremony of the 8th Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud Competition for the Memorization of the Prophetic Hadith; and the 8th Conference of Euromoney.

Addressing its weekly agenda, the Cabinet authorized the Minister of Interior to discuss with the Sudanese side amending the text of Article (XIV) of the Agreement between the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Government of the Republic of Sudan for Cooperation in the Fight Against Illicit Trafficking in Drugs and Psychotropic Substances and Their Smuggling; authorized the President of the General Authority for Civil Aviation to sign a draft agreement with Australia in the field of air transport services; authorized the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, Call and Guidance to sign a draft Memorandum of Understanding with Cameroon on regulating the work of the Center of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques in Yaoundé and the Islamic centers affiliated with it; authorized the Minister of Finance to sign a draft agreement with Hungary on the avoidance of double taxation and income tax evasion; and approved the final accounts of the King Fahd National Library and the Saudi Ports Authority for fiscal year 1432/1433 H.
