Second Deputy Prime Minister chairs Cabinet session (2/24/14)

Second Deputy Prime Minister Prince Muqrin bin Abdulaziz chaired the Cabinet session at Al-Yamamah Palace in Riyadh this afternoon. At the outset, the Council praised the decision of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz to hold a Day of Solidarity with the children of Syria. It stressed the need for the international community to act to stem the deterioration of living conditions for Syrian children inside and outside of their country.
Reviewing the Kingdom’s foreign relations, the Cabinet welcomed the recent trips of Crown Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz to Pakistan and Japan, during which various agreements were signed. Prince Muqrin also gave a briefing on his talks with Britain’s Prince Charles, who visited the Kingdom last week.
Next, the Cabinet welcomed the unanimous passage by the UN Security Council on Saturday of a resolution demanding the lifting of the siege on Syrian cities, an end to attacks against civilians, and the facilitation of access for humanitarian convoys. It expressed hope that the decision will contribute to the alleviation of the tragedy being suffered by the Syrian people. The ministers also reiterated the Kingdom’s condemnation of the two recent terrorist bombings in Beirut, which claimed a number of innocent lives.
On the domestic front, the Cabinet praised the Kingdom’s attractive economic environment, its many investments, and its continued economic growth. It reviewed the many business activities and events held inside and outside of the Kingdom last week, including joint business council meetings between Saudi Arabia and Ireland, Argentina, Spain and Japan.
Addressing its remaining agenda items, the Cabinet approved the establishment of a Justice Training Center within the organizational structure of the Ministry of Justice; approved the amendment of Article (4) of the prison and detention regulation, authorizing the Minister of the Interior, in terms of crimes affecting national security, to order the issuance of a permission regarding the name of a prisoner or detainee and regarding their data and information whenever their lawsuit is remarkably publicized; approved the unified rules to give priority in government purchases for domestic products of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries; and authorized the Governor of the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority (SAMA) to sign a draft agreement with Cuba on the encouragement and reciprocal protection of investments.
The Cabinet approved the appointments of Abdulmohsen Al-Shamikh as Administrative Advisor at the Ministry of Defense (15th rank); Ibrahim Raas as Mayor of Hail at the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs (15th rank); Ibrahim Al-Hosaini as Director General of the Public Expenditure Department at the Ministry of Finance (15th rank); Saeed Al-Jami as Minister Plenipotentiary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Musa Al-Shawmrani as Deputy Director General of the Water Directorate in Makkah Province at the Ministry of Water and Electricity (14th rank); and Mohammed Saleh as Assistant Undersecretary for Planning Affairs at the Ministry of Culture and Information (14th rank).
