OIC strongly condemns use of “excessive force” against civilians in Libya
February 22, 2011
The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) has expressed its strong condemnation of the use of excessive force against civilians in Libya, which has killed and injured a large number of people. “What is happening in Libya is suppression and intimidation, and it is in fact a humanitarian disaster incompatible with Islamic and human values,” the OIC said in a statement. OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu called on the Libyan authorities for the immediate cessation of violence and the targeting of innocent people, highlighting the need to deal with their demands through peaceful means and dialogue instead of the harsh methods of lethality and bloodshed. Ihsanoglu expressed his heartfelt condolences to the Libyan people and the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to the wounded.
