Arab Foreign Ministers recommend $100 million monthly safety net for Palestinians

February 13, 2012

The Arab League Foreign Ministers Council called on its member states to provide the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) with a monthly financial safety net of $100 million during an extraordinary meeting in Cairo yesterday. The recommendation was made to counter the financial pressures faced by the Palestinian leadership and people in light of Israel’s non-transfer of the funds to which the Palestinians are entitled. The Council also emphasized the importance of convening an International Conference on the Palestinian Issue aimed at ending the occupation of Palestinian territories and achieving a final and comprehensive settlement of the issues of borders, security, Al-Quds [Jerusalem] and refugees in accordance with the Arab Peace Initiative and the relevant U.N. resolutions.
