January 12, 2014

Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal led the Kingdom’s delegation to a meeting of the Friends of Syria in Paris today. The session, held at the headquarters of the French Foreign Ministry, included the participation of representatives from eleven countries and the Syrian National Coalition. Prince Saud was joined by the foreign ministers of the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, the UAE, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, and Turkey. The meeting was called to discuss the participation of the Syrian National Coalition in the Geneva II Conference, which is scheduled to be held in Switzerland on January 22.

After the deliberations, the head of the Coalition, Ahmad Al-Jarba, held a joint press conference with French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius. Al-Jarba announced that the foreign ministers had agreed that President Bashar Al-Assad and his family will have no role in Syria’s future. Furthermore, they believe that a transfer of power in that country is inevitable.
