October 14, 2008

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz launched a number of electricity and water projects in Madinah yesterday.

King Abdullah watched a presentation about the new projects, which include four power lines linking Madinah with the central, eastern, western and southern networks.

In remarks at the ceremony, Minister of Water and Electricity Abdullah Al-Hosain said the linkage of the Kingdom’s regions with a single grid would ensure adequate supply of electricity to residential, business and industrial areas. He added that the GCC electricity grid is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

Al-Hosain also said that the third phase of Yanbu desalination plant would be implemented with the support of the private sector. Once completed, the plant is expected to supply 400,000 cubic meters (88 million gallons) of water and 1,600 megawatts daily to meet the growing water and power requirements in Madinah Province. The new plant is expected to be operational within four years.
